Team Approach for Treating Sciatica

In this video, TJ Jones MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon with The Spine Institute of Southeast Texas will identify all of the potential members of your medical team for managing disc herniations and discuss each member’s role. This video identifies the role of chiropractors, pain management specialists and surgeons in the treatment of sciatica. Dr. Jones completed his medical training at the Texas Back Institute in Dallas Texas. There he learned that a team approach to treating sciatica, is often more effective than each specialist working alone. For example, Epidural Steroid Injections (ESI) often provide 1-6 months of reduced pain. As a team we have found that when we utilize the first 4-6 weeks following the injection to perform decompression and rehab exercises then the injection often lasts longer. This combined treatment approach results in higher patient satisfaction, less pain and reduced need for surgery and additional ESI injections.
