Trigger point injections – treatment for muscle spasms related to car accident injuries.

In the video below, Ali Akhlaghi, PA, from Progressive Medical Associates in Houston discusses how trigger point injections are often utilized on patient’s involved in auto accidents to reduce muscle spasm. He noted that the common sites of muscle spasm are in the cervical and lumbar spine and that therapy (muscle stimulation, manipulation, and rehab exercises to name a few) is typically the best option to reduce the spasm. When therapy does not work by itself, it can often be coupled with prescription medication and trigger-point injections for maximum relief from car accident injuries.

A trigger point injection is a small local injection that is designed to relax the muscle. Often times the trigger-point injection allows the physical therapy to become more effective and less painful. Typically, trigger-point injections are performed in a series of 4 to 8 shots. They are very small and typically do not cause much bruising or pain.
