Low Back Pain After Vehicle Collisions
In this video, Dr. Quinn Bui of Chiro Health and Rehab, in the 249 Bammel North Houston area, discusses low back pain caused by motor vehicle collisions. Dr. Bui states that, following an accident; it is common to get a sprain or a strain of the low back, which is the most common cause of low back pain. A sprain is a tearing of the ligaments, and a strain is a tearing of muscles. Common symptoms of a sprain/strain type injury are low back pain, pain radiating into the buttocks, and pain shooting down the leg and into the lower extremities. Typical treatments are rest, anti-inflammatories, and chiropractic care.
Chiropractic care will often include passive modalities such a muscle stimulation to reduce pain and inflammation and manipulation to the spine to restore joint motion. Most chiropractors also use active modalities such as specific exercises and stretching to restore muscle tissue back to its previous form. The patients also may also need additional imaging including x-ray to rule out fracture and an MRI to look for herniated discs in the lumbar spine.
